If you have been an iPhone user for a while, you may have come across the term hide alerts. This feature in the Messages app allows you to mute notifications from a specific group chat or individual conversation.
This essentially means that you won’t receive any notification sounds, banners or vibration alerts from that particular conversation. However, you will still get a badge icon and a new message markup in the Messages app to let you know that some messages have been received in that conversation.
Do Not Disturb (DND)
Do Not Disturb (DND) mode on iPhones and Android phones mutes all types of notifications, including call rings, text messages, app alerts and more. This mode is a great way to keep yourself focused on the task at hand, or rest and recharge when you need to get away from distractions.
It also allows you to set time-sensitive alerts so they will appear only when it’s really important, such as when you are asleep or about to go on a long car trip. You can also configure DND to take effect at a certain time every day, week or on a custom schedule.
You can set a specific person’s Do Not Disturb settings, too. This can be helpful for example, if you’re expecting an important call from your mom. Or if you’re having a meeting at work and don’t want anyone to call you.
If you know someone has a particularly important call coming, it’s worth bypassing Do Not Disturb for them using Emergency Bypass. The Emergency Bypass option will let that person’s calls ring through even when Do Not Disturb is on, and their message alerts and FaceTime calls will still ring through.
To use Emergency Bypass on your iPhone, open the Messages app and tap a conversation thread that you think would be a good candidate to bypass Do Not Disturb for. Then, move the Hide Alerts slider to the right.
Do Not Disturb is a useful feature, but it can be frustrating when you’re trying to get some sleep or focus on something important. It can be tempting to open your phone to check a notification, or look at the clock and notice it’s already a half-hour past bedtime.
That’s why Apple includes a setting called Time Sensitive that lets you choose when certain apps will send you alerts. You can turn this on for a few seconds to give you a reminder, or set it for a longer period to help you sleep better.
Do Not Disturb is a very handy feature to have on your phone, but there’s a good chance you’ll need to tweak it from time to time. For starters, you should try to update your iOS device to the latest version as sometimes software glitches can interfere with it. And if you do find any problems, try restarting your device to see if that resolves the issue.
Invisible Ink
Invisible ink is a feature that allows users to send obscured texts to their friends and contacts. Some compare it to Snapchat’s disappearing text feature, and it’s a great way to keep things secret.
However, you should be aware that this feature only works in the iMessage app on Apple devices. It won’t work in other messaging apps, including WhatsApp, so be sure to use iMessage when you want to send an invisible message.
To send an invisible message, start by opening the iMessage app on your iPhone or iPad and select the conversation thread that you’d like to develop. Next, type the message you’d like to write, and before sending it press and hold the upwards pointing arrow that’s colored blue. This will open the iMessage “Send with effect” screen, and you can tap the dot next to Invisible Ink to preview what your message will look like when it’s hidden by a blurry bubble.
When you’re ready to send the message, simply press and hold the arrow again, and tap the dot next to Invisible Ink again. This will send the message with an invisible ink effect, and the message bubble will only be revealed to the recipient if he rubs the message bubble.
There are several different types of invisible ink, including heat-fixed inks that can be made with any chemical substance that’s colorless until mixed with an acid or base. Some are organic substances that oxidize when heated, while others can be made from a mix of chemicals that don’t react with each other.
Another type of invisible ink is a chemically activated ink, which is made from two separate chemical substances that are colorless until they’re combined. This can be a simple solution of vinegar and red cabbage water, or a more elaborate mixture that requires a couple of other ingredients.
Invisible ink can be used for a variety of purposes, from writing passwords to hiding messages that you don’t want others to see. In fact, it’s so effective that a lot of spies and clandestine lovers still use it today.
Mute Notifications
When you receive a notification from someone on your iPhone, it can be annoying. If you don’t want to receive messages from a certain person, you can mute their notifications without completely blocking them.
When this feature is turned on, you won’t receive any incoming messages from that person, including any alerts for SMS and iMessage chats. However, you will still be able to see their messages in the Messages app and reply to them.
The Hide Alerts feature on an iPhone is a useful way to silence notifications for specific contacts. You can enable it from within the Messages app by selecting the contact and tapping on their name or number.
Alternatively, you can use the ring/silent switch to silence your iPhone’s notifications. This hardware switch is located on the left side of your device, right above the volume buttons.
One of the most common reasons why your phone’s notifications are being silenced is because the recipient of your text has enabled Focus Mode. If they’ve done so, you’ll see the message “has notifications silenced” when they send you a message in iMessage.
If this happens, you’ll need to turn off Focus Mode to restore your alerts to the screen. This can be done through the Control Center or from the settings app.
Another thing that may cause this problem is that the recipient of your message has a Do Not Disturb feature enabled on their iPhone. To disable this feature, go to the Control Center and swipe up on the corresponding ‘Do Not Disturb’ icon.
Once you have it turned off, you can go back to the Messages app and check if you can now receive notifications again. If you can, you’re done!
In addition to turning on Do Not Disturb, you can also mute a specific contact’s notifications by enabling the Hide Alerts feature in their Messages app. This will hide all alerts from that contact so that you don’t get distracted by their messages.
Hide Alerts
Hide alerts is a feature that allows users to hide notifications from specific contacts or conversations. It’s a great way to keep your phone less cluttered and make you more productive.
If you’ve ever tried to work on something important while your iPhone flooded with text messages, social media notifications, or other apps pinging, it can be frustrating to try and keep up with all of them. Luckily, you can easily hide these alerts from your iPhone so that you don’t have to worry about them interfering with what you’re trying to do.
The first step is to open the Messages app on your iPhone and select the contact or conversation you want to hide. To do this, simply tap the name of the contact or thread in the top center section of the screen.
Once you’ve selected the contact or chat thread, simply toggle the Hide Alerts option on. The person or group that you’ve muted will no longer be able to see any incoming notifications from you on their iPhone, and they won’t even know that you’ve hidden them.
This is a great feature to use for parents who want to limit their kids’ access to texts on the device, or for people who prefer to get messages from only a few trusted contacts and don’t want them to distract them. It’s also a great tool for anyone who doesn’t want to receive a lot of spam texts from people they don’t trust.
You can also use this feature to mute notifications from specific social media apps or games. To do this, launch the Settings app and then tap Notifications.
Alternatively, you can mute the notifications from specific iMessage conversations by opening the iMessage app and then tapping on a contact or conversation that you want to mute. Once you’ve selected the conversation, tap on the details icon and then toggle the Hide Alerts switch on to mute notifications from this chat.
To re-enable the iMessage conversation, just swipe left on it and tap Show Alerts. The Messages app will now display a grey moon icon next to the conversation.
